Having worked in the automotive industry, generally first run new development vehicles have very little margin , the production run is started and then based on volume the tier 1-3 suppliers are cutting costs which usually reflects in the quality of the product to gain market share, unless they are trying to get completely on one section of the model type. We all try and right down initial product development costs and initial production run to verify the product for the market place. My guess would be by now that the loss per Mach E sold would be approaching 25k something Ford would not want to mention to its shareholders. As far as the current design of the battery pack having been involved with the Boeing787 program it is state of the art. However will it stay this way is the question.
