Meh. Gas cars catch fire all the time, as pointed out in the article. It's just not news when they do. There are some unique problems that need to be solved with BEVs (like fire departments not knowing how to deal with Li-ion batteries). Some gas-powered cars also have trick door handles, although there's no excuse for not having an easily-accessible mechanical backup.

Yeah I wonder if the mach e door handles would work better in these situations?

With battery being directly under passenger compartment, do BEVs pose a greater life threat when on fire when compared to gas engines vehicles ?

I have similar concerns during a flood where high voltage electrical components can get submerged in the water along with the cabin.
