Right up front, sorry for the bad quality, not sure why livestream has such a bad image.

I made a video about my renewal fees in California.

Not cheap!

Mine is $725 because I have to pay for the personal plate renewal. It might get cheaper every year, although this is the most I've ever paid for DMV fees, it's more than what I paid DMV when I bought the car.

Welcome to confiscatory Calunicornia. Here is the California DMV link for calculating your total license fee.

Yea by now I learned it has mostly something to do with that the car sales price was so high and not that is an EV.

Do you pay this yearly?
The fee is based on value so it goes down every year (usually) like a slow leak. At least we only pay close to $5 a gallon for gas.
Nevada bases plates on MSRP value that decreases with time. My renewal in Feb. will be over $700 but unlike my neighbors to the west, Nevada has no state income tax. I'm in the process of buying a second residence in Utah and that state has a lower plate rate but charges $120 per year EV fee. Unlike CA both Nevada and Utah have a well-maintained road system
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I just paid my tags and mine were $865+ 1.9% fee for paying with a credit card for a grand total of $881.44 + auto insurance I’m at $1,800+ and of course not including this month’s car payment. At the end of the day, still love this car. But, damn it’s expensive!

My California renewal just came in at $850. It would have been the same for an equal value ICE vehicle. At least I saved over $4500 in gasoline! And no oil changes, smog check, catalytic theft, muffler bearings, etc.

Not to mention having to check blinker fluid
