Had a few inches of rain over the last few days. When I opened the hatch today I had water running from under the close/adjust switch. Anybody had this problem?

We just got our mache last week. Love it but went to open the trunk yesterday and actually have a similar problem. Water was pouring out of the handle on the inside of the trunk. This would be to the right of where your leak is. Calling our Ford dealer tomorrow. Have you had any updates on your issue? I didn’t see any gasket seals missing or anything. No idea how the water got inside the plastics.

The dealer said that it was leaking around both taillights. They used a third party company that specializes in finding and fixing leaks. It doesn’t seem to leak, but we’ll see when we have the next downpour.

Test drove one at Ford of Monroeville in PA this weekend and it had water pouring out from both the trunk release button (left side - same as picture above) and the handle from inside the trunk (right-side). It was a quite a bit of water that continued to drain from both sides. Dealer hasn't had a tech available to check it out yet but it's definitely a concern to me.

This is alarming. Has anyone else had this problem. I opened my trunk today and did not see the water, but then during the East coast storm my car was sitting inside the garage. If there is a leak prone area they should have this re-engineered and have existing cars fixed. Why would one have a hole thru the rear tailgate that can spring such a leak (not the first time Ford is building a car).

Adding one additional data point. I have this same issue of water leaking out of the rear hatch after sitting or driving in the rain for several hours. My car is a Nov 2021 build, which already has the fix from the TSB. After two days and work by two technicians, the dealer has been unable to determine the cause of the leak. Has anyone else had any recent experience with this issue. Just like in the above posts, the water runs / drips out of the handle and switch areas when the lift gate is opened.

My 2021 MACH e GTPE has this same leak...build date in Nov 2021. I dropped it off to my local Ford Dealership this morning to have it fixed. They called me after an hour to say that they can't find where it's coming from. It's been really dry here the last couple of weeks, and they currently have it in the shower. I feel like my explanation is being lost in translation as the service advisor calls me to find out the info and then relays it to the mechanic. But clearly, I had water running/dripping out of the handle and the switch areas when the lift gate is open. Hopefully they can figure it out.

This is a known issue that Ford Motor Co. is aware of. There are hundreds if not thousands of these vehicles with the same problem. The Service Advisor / Technician should be able to check with Fords ( Oasis ) computer to enter this information to get what Ford recommends to fix it. At least start with that repair then recheck to see if that all it needs. There is what Ford calls a Technical Service Bulletin ( TSB ) with instructions & parts recommended by Ford engineers to fix the leak.

I have a follow up appointment to get mine back in for another appointment in August. It rained here yesterday and water streamed out of the handle area, even though they could not find a leak when at the dealership. I am planning to do some experiments this weekend to see if I can figure out where the leak is originating.

I did get my car repaired at the dealership this past week. The leak was at the taillight assembly, which I had found the night before my appointment by showering water on that area of the hatch. It has not rained since, but I am confident in the fix since they were able to duplicate the issue at the dealership this time, as well.

I’ve been dealing with this issue with Koons Ford in Falls Church VA for nearly a year. The 3rd party validator compNy is a joke. A buffer for Ford. Koons Ford has gone silent on me. I use a soft cloth flagshiip car wash. When I wash my car, water gathers, somehow, in the hatch itself, not the cabin, and continues to drip/run out if the top if the hatch, down the channels on the inside of the hatch when opened for like 20 minutes. The water makes its way under the rear glass and pools. I use compressor to blow it out from under the lip for about 10 minutes. It is a serious issue as water gathering anywhere inside metal isn’t good long term. It’s also damaging the paint on the hatch on that stupid little
ledge under the rear glass. It also makes its way inside by the taillights and inside the rear space.

I could use some help. If you can run it through a car wash then open the hatch immediately after and watch it drip from the top inside hatch (where it connects with the top of the car) and shoot some video, maybe we can het Ford to actually acknowledge the issue. And if they don’t do something then maybe we can. put Mach E in subject line and share video to cubbyfan84@gmail.com

Hi there! Would you send us a private message with your VIN and dealership name and location? I’d like to look into this concern on my end.

Mine has leaked this way. Premium built may 2022. 3 incidents of leaking so far. The first time was fall of 2022, I think it was either after I washed the car or it was windy rain, only out of the hatch handle. The next 2 incidents were around may 2023, again windy rain. After driving and then opening the tail hatch while parked, a bit leaked out of the handle, and then on the same day after parked an afternoon in windy rain, tail hatch seemed badly flooded, so when I opened the hatch a LOT of water leaking out the hatch handle, the light/button, and a flood from the top of the hatch down the channels outside the hatch side seals. Currently in the shop for servicing to see what the issue is.

Update: Looks like it's the right rear light in my case.
Update 2: Dropped it off for the day and they did the repair. They ordered a new retainer and light assembly for the rear right lamp because water was leaking in through a pushpin. Haven't tested it myself whether all the leaks are fixed, guess I'll find out next time I wash the car. Other than the wait for the parts, repair seemed relatively quick and painless. Diagnosing the problem and location seems to be the most difficult part of it.

I have a Dec 22 build date so its a 23 model, AWD Premium, and that sometimes leaks in-to the boot area coming out around the grab handle and boot catch, it spent a day in the local dealership nothing found. Asked to take a picture next time I see it happen. (Not sure how that helps as I know it gets in the the boot) Anyone with a MY23 build having the same issue and perhaps had it fixed.

I have the same issue on my 2022 Mach-E Select. Every time it rains water only collects inside the lift hatch and then pours out 1/2 cup or more out of the handle or blank (where the power lift gate button would be on another model. Auto Nation Torrance cannot figure out where the leak is coming from after leaving it for 5 days. I have multiple videos on this and still not resolved.

Hi there. This rear hatch leak concern doesn’t sound like something we want you to experience with your Mach-E. Could you please send us a PM with your VIN and the name and location of your Ford dealer? To send a private message, just click/hover on our username and select "Message". I'd be happy to look into how I can assist you on my end.

I wonder if all you people with water ingress into the tailgate had it sorted if not this is the answer:- it can be the tail lights but I found it to be rain getting in past the Pony badge as it is not a stick on one. It is held in with two pins, ask for it to be removed and sealed that cured mine. No one considered this as dealerships also must have thought is was a stick on badge!
