Non-illuminated frt pony badge -EU rules

4460 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Say Watt
Due to European Union regulations, the front pony is not allowed to be illuminated on this side of the pond, so no light in our GT's pony badge here.

Does anyone know how Ford has disabled the illumination? The spec says that the car is delivered with the illuminated frt pony badge, so i guess they may have disconnected the wires, disabled it in software or something else?

If anyone knows, I'm greatfull for any help to get it illuminated again!

If you search on Youtube or some other forums, there are tutorials for removing the “frunk” panels. (Also do some various forum searches with the keyword “Norway”.) It looks like it is on the mechanical ability level of Ikea furniture assembly. There should be a wire going to the badge location. If there is a wire, the plug has probably been left unconnected or the bulb has been removed.

Good luck! Uff Da!

Yeah, this is a "Uff da" situation;) Thanks for your answer. I'll just need to wait for some warmer weather before removing the frunk. It's minus 11 degrees Celcius and snow, and my garage is too small for the car, so I will wait for a better weather forecast.

Tusen takk!

I managed to remove the frunk and can just about see the connector behind the radiator on my UK 2021 GT. It is connected - I guess they are disabling it in software or at the other end?

I doubt that it is software but I could be wrong. (It's happened twice before so I have one more to go ;) If it is software, it would be possible to turn it on if someone has access to a third-level scanner. (Mechanics are fond of beer and baked goods.)

Pull the connector - it looks like a spring clip type lock. Turn on the headlights and check to voltage output with a digital volt meter. If you have voltage, the bulb may be missing. If there is no voltage, it may be disconnected at the other end or - if you are lucky - there may be a fuse that was removed for that circuit.

I'll poke around and look for some circuit information. I'm a long way from getting my own toy to take apart.

Really interested in knowing if this can be fixed. Just taken delivery of my GT and disappointment that the pony isn’t lit up

@My_Wifes_GT Did you check this out yet? I get my GT delivered this friday. According to the dealership, this is removed from fabric - but i doubt this(?).
Still nothing that I know of that re-enables this. I think we’ve been mislead by Ford marketing and screwed over as GT owners
No news on my side unfortunately. Only thing I do know is that this note was attached to the car when it arrived my dealer.

Been on the phone with Ford Company EU - Confirmed that the illuminated pony badge is removed from the car, and the car is built on a european platform. Im still in doubt and will dissassemble the car when i get an opportunity to check this out myself :D

Hi Orpic,
Have you checket it out. Is there a way to illuminate the pony ?
After EIGHT months, I finally got my GTPE. This first thing I have to do with a new toy is take it apart. Here is the back side, top view of the illuminated Pony assembly for North America.

Hi. No illuminated pony for the EU. I’ve just had my front grille replaced by Ford as it cracked after a stone hit it. I don’t think it should do that and they agreed. EU part comes as plain moulding. No way to light the pony for us. :(
This is the part number from the American Ford dealers. You can maybe find one online that will ship overseas.
