Many Tesla Superchargers can't charge a Mach-E, a Lightning, and many other EVs without parking at the end spot, or parking sideways. I've learned the following:

1) The federal government doesn't decide who gets the funds, the state does.

2) The NEVI standards don't address cord length.

I have spent a total of 15 minutes reaching out to my state, and getting in touch with the team that will be approving funding, and ensuring that they recognize this situation, and withhold funds from locations that don't allow charging by any CCS-equipped vehicle. While not in the standards, I've received an acknowledgement of recognition of the issue, and the statement back - "Myself and others on the NEVI Project Management Team will take this into consideration if any Tesla charging stations apply. We want what is best for all EV users and intend to reflect this in the NEVI investments."

Please take a few minutes of your day, reach out to your state, and ask them to do what I've asked my state to do, not dole out funds to chargers that cannot be used by everyone due to an inability of the cord to plug in.

Thanks Rick. Would you be willing to share which agency in your state you contacted and a template of the content you suggest we use?

Who I contacted in my state is irrelevant if you're contacting someone in your state. You need to find your state's plan, which is easy. It then should be quite easy to figure out where to address feedback to. As to what you want to tell them, that's up to you. I pointed out that the Magic Dock doesn't allow many CCS vehicles to charge due their charging ports not being within reach of the cable. I also pointed out that the CEO of Tesla has a history of not complying with things he agreed to, and fighting it out in courts, and that they need to ensure that any funds Tesla receives are subject to an ironclad agreement on them meeting 100% of the requirements.

I encourage everyone to read their state's plans, it's not rocket science (pun intended).

Yeah, all of the arrogant manufacturers who thought it was cool not to put charge ports at the left rear or the right front because they would never want access to Tesla's Superchargers. The version 4 Superchargers do address this issue with longer cords and different location. Blaming the CEO of Tesla for the nonsense of non-standard charge port locations and not magically instantly changing cord lengths on the biggest charging network in the country is absurd. Maybe what Tesla should do is tell the government bodies to stuff it and we'll go our own way without subsidies - oops, they just did that with California over CC readers.

The suggested actions in this thread are nonsense. What I don't understand is its purpose when new Superchargers (possibly subsidized), version 4, accommodate the complaints about the magic dock. Also, Tesla is a business that will take reasonable steps to allow access to their currently making money Supercharger network, but that expansion is not part of any government subsidy program.

This thread appears to have the result of cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

So Telsa agreeing with The White House to have 20% of their Superchargers CCS compatible by end of 2024 was with zero federal dollars? You're absolutely sure of that? If so, link to a source.

Where did someone "blame the CEO of Tesla"?

As far as taking action - I'm sure your state will do everything 100% right without consumer input. Note that I didn't say anything about mentioning Tesla when you reached out to your state's contact department.

Is there any indication that Tesla won't comply with "compatible" as promised? The real question is whether the other 80% might be available to non-Tesla cars and who would complain if the cords weren't instantly compatible with the silliness of port locations.

I wonder who said this: "I also pointed out that the CEO of Tesla has a history of not complying with things he agreed to, and fighting it out in courts, and that they need to ensure that any funds Tesla receives are subject to an ironclad agreement on them meeting 100% of the requirements."

I said that, and I wrote it when someone asked me what I said. But go read the original post. And nothing in there blames him for anything, it points out factual history.

And he is an ahole, with dozens of lawsuits against him, for doing whatever the hell he wants to. Screwing the taxpayer out of money has to be prevented. He kept plants open in California when ordered to close them too.

Personal insults have no place here! Where is Tesla screwing the taxpayer?

There is zero evidence that Tesla will not comply with its compatibility deal for 20% of its chargers for Federal funds to build new chargers. There is a possibility that a much higher percentage may become available, but it is absolutely not Tesla's fault that other manufacturers idiotically placed their charge ports where Supercharger cords wouldn't reach. Apparently engineers never considered the value of access to the largest charging network on the planet. Tesla has to buy longer cords, immediately??? That stupidity will delay access for Ford and others unnecessarily.

California authorized essential businesses to be open during the Pandemic. Alameda County attempted to keep Tesla closed when other auto manufacturers around the country were allowed to be open. It's a very good thing he defied them!

Life's too short to carry all that anger.
