Its a feature available on the powerboost hybrid powertrain equipped F-150 that Ford introduced for 2021. A $4495 upgrade. For $750 more you can charge your EV with the “Pro Power Onboard” 7.2-kW power generation. Its basically a Level 2 EV charger.

It's rated at 30 amps. For continuous load you would be limited to 24 amp charging, on the low end of level 2 charging. It's a nice feature, however, for unusual circumstances.

No official word on what the new ‘range-extender’ generator is for. The one mentioned above is just for work-site tool use.

~$4.5K... wow... a generator and a couple of tanks or propane are 1/4 of the price. Truck manufacturers aren't stupid. They'll pack the features in so the 179 deduction/depreciation on vehicles over 6,000lbs kicks in. So the plumbing contractor buys a shiny new vehicle that hardly does any work for a couple of years for himself to drive around quoting jobs, then turns it over to his crew so it can actually be used for work.
