Windshield Recall 21C22

Just saw in Ford Authority that the windshield glass recall (21C22) was expanded to include Mustang Mach E's manufactured for the United States. It’s the same recall announced for Canada only it covers more cars (17,692). I am concerned about having my windshield removed and re-glued to my car because it has a light interior (Space Grey) and I’ve seen some pictures showing scuff marks and other damage to the interior of the cars after glass work (windshield repair).

This comes right after Ford announced the panoramic roof glass recall extending to the United States (which too includes more cars). In that recall the panoramic glass needs to be cleaned on the edges and adhesive added where needed.

Owners have to wait to receive letters from Ford letting them know of the recall before bringing their cars into the dealers. I assume that the dealers will outsource the work to third party companies like Safelite (at least I hope so as most dealerships are not equiped or have the skilled personnel required to perform glass repair).

I bought a select because I didn't want a panoramic roof. Then I had to add in the comfort/technology options. I would have gotten a premium if they had a panoramic delete option. But it still has a windshield!
I don't like any recall, but from what little I know, this one doesn't sound terrible.

I get windshields replaced regularly, because I have to drive on gravel roads, and the private company that does it shows up at my door, removes the old one, installs the new one, and leaves in about an hour. They do a great job at a fair price, because they have specialized tools and a lot of experience. The biggest hassle is replacing any stickers that you had on the windshield.

Having said that, I am not sure that they know much about panoramic roofs, so if that part is in the 21C22 recall, it might be more problematic.
reading the panoramic recall tho, I don't think it calls for removing the roof, just inspection and adding additional adhesive. I'm not worried about the windshield recall, certainly they'll have specialists do that.
I just had my panoramic roof replaced after a road hazard… it was on back order for three months and took two trips to the dealer for replacement because they needed a “urethane” glass specialist to do it. I can only imagine how long it will take to get these all replaced.
the recall doesn't entail replacing the panoramic glass, just inspection and additional adhesive where needed. This is the text of the panoramic roof recall "

"
  • A roof panel that separates from a vehicle can become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.
  • NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V712000
  • Manufacturer Ford Motor Company
  • Components VISIBILITY
  • Potential Number of Units Affected 13,544
  • Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021 Mustang Mach-E vehicles. The vehicle's panoramic roof glass panel may not have been properly bonded to the vehicle, which could allow it to detach.
  • Remedy
Dealers will apply additional urethane adhesive, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 27, 2021. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 21S42.

As in the movie "My Cousin Vinny" when describing how grits are made, Unless the laws of bonding have changed for Ford, and everything I know about cars, you must remover the panoramic roof to put additional bonding material between the panoramic roof and the roof of the car.

If the panoramic roof is left in place, all you are doing is putting bonding material on the edges not between the panoramic roof and the roof. Putting bonding on the edges might prevent water from entering the car, but will have little to no effect about attaching the glass roof to the body.

If indeed the recall is because the glass roof may separate from the body, then additional bonding material must be applied between the glass roof and the car - not along the edges. The only way to properly apply the additional bonding material is to remove the glass roof.

I take it as "inspect" eg... pull on roof and see if it moves or has visible signs of weak adhesion. Then remove if needed and reapply.

I had a stone hit my windshield last week and there is now a crack a couple of feet long. Very annoying as I had only made one payment before it happened! I am having Safelite come to my house next week to fix it. Do they know how to fix all the things like the rain sensing windshield wipers and how to take off the attachments by the rear view mirror without messing up the high beam settings and anything else that might need to be adjusted??

Just my $.02:

With a crack "a couple of feet long" I doubt Safelite or anyone can fix the windshield.

IMO, it will have to be replaced. FYI, in NY almost every policy has "full glass replacement" without deductions - so replacing windshields is the norm - not the exception. From other posts, it seems that windshields for the MachE are not a "stock" item but must be special ordered from Ford, which can take weeks.

But maybe things have changed and Safelite has windows in stock.

With other cars, after replacement of the windshield, recalibration of active cruise control, lane centering, parking etc. is usually done by the dealer.
I had my windshield replaced by Safelite last week because of a large crack. The service person was also able to do the recalibration and provided a certificate of recalibration as well.

Sorry, I wrote that wrong. Safelite will be replacing my windshield, not try to fix the crack. I just hope they can recalibrate everything so I don’t have to schedule an extra visit to the Ford dealership to do that.

I'm hoping to be included in this recall because a rock the size of a baseball hit my windshield and it needs to be replaced. If I can save on the labour costs because of the recall it would be good. I won't be replacing it until spring, because the season to put down sand & gravel on the roads is starting here in Canada.
My windshield cracked from the inside at bottom center. Now a second crack that's expanding right next to first. This is clearly a body stress issue. Tho I've not been notified of any of these recalls.
I have to wonder if the problem on the Mach-e is related to the Moonroof problem on the Bronco? If so, additional bonding agent is not the answer.
"Ford has determined the cause of the problem to be insufficient primer curing time given prior to the moonroof frame being installed. This results in inadequate adhesion to the glass."

Hi there. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

The Ford dealer cracked my windshield removing it for the recall last Wednesday and they received a replacement in less than a week including over Christmas holiday so I do think Ford because of recall is making replacement windshields avialable quicker now.

Had a rock hit my windshield, it's complicated and expensive to replace. Not sure all third parties could handle it.
My dealer didn't have rental or loaner when I dropped my car off on 1/6. They cracked the windshield so the 2 day recall is now into the third week. Asked dealer again for loaner or rental and was told again nothing available. I called Ford Customer Service and after a long hold I was told that only a two day rental was approved and anything longer would have to go through the dealer's internal department. Sigh!
I have the same issue. A crack that looks like a bullet hole just appeared on the base of the windshield on the passenger side. Then I took a closer look at what I thought was a seam on the glass roof and it is a crack. I haven't been anywhere other than around town. Less than 600miles, and no rocks have hit my car. I noticed the "seam" the day I got my car. It looked like it was part of the equipment right below it. I am taking it in today. Wish me luck.
