Just received this e-mail from Ford

Fantastic news! Your 2021 Mustang Mach-E First Edition has been built – which means it won’t be long before you’re able to experience the thrill of driving!

Our current estimate for delivery to Vista Ford is between February 1 2021 and February 7 2021.

My Premium was originally scheduled to be built the week of 11/30. Today I finally got notification it's been built and delivery is estimated as Jan 30-Feb 5 to Santa Clara, CA. Frontier Ford

Wish I was more excited by this news, but I'm mostly just angry they fell short after promising delivery in 2020. Tack on another year before I get to see my money come back to me by way of the tax rebate

Just received the following email from Ford for my First Edition:

To ensure your complete satisfaction, we will require additional time before your 2021 Mustang Mach‑E First Edition is delivered to Biener Ford. Your vehicle’s previous estimated delivery range of February 9 2021 and February 15 2021 has been updated to between March 24 2021 and March 30 2021.

Your dealer will contact you to arrange the delivery and pickup details regarding your new vehicle.

Thank you.

I guess I will have to call my car a "Second or maybe Third Edition"!

My chronology was reserved in November 2019, converted in July 2020, build date December 6.

Wonder what problems Ford discovered that need to be corrected?

Ford did a similar thing with the new 2021 F150. The first off the lines were held back and seatbelts were replaced on some, and other stuff was checked or adjusted. This extra QA check was done to ensure the best customer experience.

The second-run cars coming off the assembly line already had these changes incorporated. In some cases, the second-run units have the same delivery dates as those first-runs getting the adjustments.

This seems to be the case here.

Lots of speculation and I don't want to toss too much fuel on the fire here, but worth pointing out that some of the folks getting the delay email are those who's cars are in the yard in Kansas City. That said, the issue can't be shipping and it's not production. So some sort of quality control item for sure.
Sounds to me like that group of Mach-E's is going to get bigger and bigger in Kanasas City. Just like what happened in Detroit with the stockpile of F-150s going through quality control checks.

My MME was due to be built this week. Dealer rep emailed me Wednesday after being notified car was built - sent me the sticker with VIN as well and he said delivery ETA was Feb 15th. Emailed him this morning and he says their system still shows the same ETA. It was originally scheduled to be built a week earlier but Ford changed it to this week on Dec 18th. A bit nervous after all this since my current lease ends on Feb 25th, but perhaps this delay is limited to cars produced in Nov/December?

My Premium Ext AWD is still scheduled to be built the week of 17 Jan so hopefully I have dodged the issue of concern. I can sympathize with those who have tried to schedule the delivery of their Mach E around the end of a current lease. I will never lease as then I am at the mercy of someone else's rules. I have the luxury of selling my 25 year old Contour SE V-6 whenever the MME arrives and whether the car has 165,000 or 170,000 miles on it, it is worth the same. It is reliable and still has plenty of useful miles left in it. A car (at least an ICE) has about 30,000 parts in it and I still marvel that it can function in a harsh environment so long with very few problems. So is the glass half full or half empty? (IMO)

I put an official statement from Ford in this story: Mustang Mach-E Hype Leads General Motors To Follow Suit With Corvette SUV | Torque News

From Emma Berg, Ford's Mach-E PR person, emailed directly to me: "As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles, we are conducting additional quality checks on several hundred Mustang Mach-E models built before dealer shipments started last month. As part of our quality process, we want to ensure they meet the quality our customers expect and deserve. We notified affected customers that they may receive their Mustang Mach-Es on different timing than previously discussed. The team is working to expedite these vehicles, and we hope that customers receive them ahead of targeted dates, providing there are no COVID-19-related transportation delays."
